In 1998, Nico (°1974) obtained the degree of Master in the Audiovisual Arts from Sint-Lucas in Brussels. His background in experimental cinema and his penchant for cinema d’auteur resulted in collaborations with several Belgian top directors such as Fien Troch, Alex Stockman, Brosens & Woodworth, Nicolas Provost, Jan Lauwers, Patrice Toye and Pieter Van Hees. ‘The Misfortunates' marks his third collaboration with Felix van Groeningen.

Apart from being a movie editor, Nico also works with theatre and dance companies e.g. Needcompany, Berlin & Peeping Tom. Since 2001, he has been a lecturer at several film schools and in 2007, he accepted a position as lecturer with the film training department of the KASK (Royal Academy of Fine Arts) in Ghent. Last year, Nico directed his first fictional short film, 'Afterday'.
